My daughter had visited Kensington Gardens before and met the parrots living here and wanted to show them to me. We were lucky and the parrots came forwards to partake of peanuts and an apple. No one knows why they are here and many different theories exist. But somehow a few parrots have been let loose in southeastern England and it is estimated that there is something like 8600 breeding pairs. They may be considered an invasive species and they were certainly the dominant species in comparison to the doves and the magpies we also saw in the park as well as lots of grey squirrels. They provided great entertainment and a great show for the price of a bag of peanuts and an apple and we had great fun .More animal pictures at Camera Critters and Saturday’s Critters and more bird pictures at The BIRD D’Pot and Wild Bird Wednesday.
That is brilliant. I was in Kensington Gardens in September and although I saw the Parrots in the trees I never thougt of bringing peanuts or an apple to attract them down closer.

`Thank you! Maybe next time then. It evidently doesn’t work every time. My daughter told me there were more birds this time than when she was there the first time. But she returned on Wednesday when she had some time waiting for her bus after I had left for Gatwick and then they didn´t feel like coming down at all, maybe becuse it was raining. There is supposed to be som hotspot for them as well, And there is a shop a few blocks away that sells unshelled peanuts. They were great fun anyhow. I wish you a wonderful weekend!

Thank you! They are beautiful! Some landed on me as well and some blocked the lense. I have had birds when I was a child and when I was younger. Not this species though but birds are great companions. I wish you a wonderful weekend!

Wow! I can’t get over how you have them eating out of your hand. I’m amazed that the parrots can survive in your climate.

Thank you! My daughter in the picture and I had a wonderful experience with them. It seems to be a hardy parrot and it seldom snows in England and I think the temperature seldom falls below 0 degrees Celsius. They seem to survive anyhow. Some of them landed on my head and my camera and reminded me oft he times we had small parrots as pets. I wish you a wonderful sunday!
