Stork in flight

DSC_7772 The picture above is of one of the wild storks that has built their nest on top of the aviary cage in Fulltofta. It is on its way to land on the nest. It seems storks like to live in villages so they nest close to each other.  The picture is taken on June 15 2014.

Carl von Linné found lots of storks in Scania during his Scanian journey in 1749 but sadly the stork disappeared from Scania and Sweden in 1954. The stork is seen as the symbolic bird for Scania along with the farm geese. In the middle of the 1900s most wetlands in Scania had been drained and the birds couldn´t find food. But now they have started to restore the wetlands and circa a hundred stork babies are born in the cages this year and circa 70 babies in the wild.     • Tack! Jag hade inte heller sett vilda storkar innan jag åkte för att titta på storkprojektet. Men det verkar som de har sin norra gräns här i Skåne för de har aldrig häckat i Småland. Guiden på storkprojektet sade att det var för att bona behövde torka upp mellan regnen för att häckningen skall lyckas. För länge sedan var jag på en botanikkurs där kursledaren sade att Skåne var mer en del av det kontinentala Europa med tanke på berggrund, flora och fauna än resten av Sverige. Och det stämmer nog för i norra Skåne tar de stora skogarna vid. Jag önskar dig en skön söndag!
